're tracking developing news of an accident that shut down a san francisco intersection. a driver took out a fire hydrant at folsom and essex near the onramp to the bay bridge. claudine wong is out there. are they getting close to reopening it yet, claudine? >> reporter: well, close, probably not but they are doing some important work right now. within the last half-hour since we last checked in with you, the crews for this scaffolding company have started to arrive. once the bus gets out of the way, you can see the work they are doing. what they told me they need to do is repair the collapsed bottom part of the scaffolding. once they do that -- and that could take a while -- then they will test it to make sure it is safe. if you pan across essex, you can see the entire area is shut down. that's because the fire department is out there. if there's any question about the structural integrity. this is entrance to the bay bridge. traffic at this point, just has to go around. let me show you video from this morning. it was about 3:0 that a san francisco police officer try -- 3:30 that a san fr

"mornings on 2" starts now. >>> good morning, everybody. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm brian flores. dave clark has the morning off. >> good morning. i'm pack cook. tori campbell is off today. it's -- i'm pam cook. it it tori campbell is off today. >>> a christmas morning fire in the south bay. it started a few hours ago. janine de la vega is on the scene and joins us from campbell. how does it look out there, janine? >> reporter: well, the fire is out here at this commercial building on del avenue. firefighters are still putting water on it. you can actually see the smoke still rising in the air coming from that building. now, originally we were told that the firefighters had not entered the building yet for safety precautions. let's go to some video. here you can see some flames shooting from the roof. we were told they were 50 feet up in the air at one point. firefighters were called to the scene just before 5:00 a.m. they immediately started to attack it from the outside. the

in the upcoming term. california's proposition 8 is not on that list. ktvu's brian flores is in san francisco to tell us what that means for same-sex marriage here in california. >> reporter: hi, dave, good morning. it appears for now that opponents of proposition 8 will have to wait until the end of the week for any decision on this from the u.s. supreme court. we were waiting to hear some decision. but it appears the supreme court will at least delay it until about friday, though. the key was whether the prop was gonna be on their cases. now, if that happens, that means the decision won't come until june. this postpones any decision until later this week. come friday morning, we'll be at this to see if the supreme court agrees with the lower court on whether gay marriage is unconstitutional or if they will keep prop 8 as voted on back in 2008. a lot of reac-- a lot of reaction from the castro district. we'll stay on this. back to you. >> thank you. now, our washington, d.c. newsroom is also following this. coming up at 7:15, we'll have more analysis of what this morning's developments could
's go back to dave and pam. >>> we are tracking a san francisco police investigation which is happening right now. a woman gave birth on the street just hours ago and then she was begging for help. claudine wong is there and just spoke to a man who called police for help. what is going on claudine? >> reporter: let me show you where we are. this building behind me is a church that runs a shelter which is open 24 hours but they don't take walk ins so when a woman showed up bleeding and asking for help, the man was not sure what to do. he didn't want to go on camera but he did take us through what happened. >> she was crying, just looked like she was just beaten up, covered in blood. she said she just had a bibi, -- baby, i didn't see a baby in her hand. she just started walking off and that's when i called police. >> the woman did walk off and he saw her again and he saw a woman with something in her arms also trying to get help. >> he was trying to get help with oncoming cars and that's when police had arrived. >> now we do not know the condition of the baby or the mother and we do know

:05. sentencing today for a san francisco school cafeteria worker convicted of several sexual assaults. he was convicted of attacking three women in the mission district last year. one of them was beaten unconscious. he could get life in prison. the fifth suspect charged in an attack that left one man dead and a woman badly beaten is set to face a judge today. they were found bound and bagged in the middle of the street. the victims and the suspects knew each other. the final suspect is facing charges of accessory to murder and conspiracy to destroy evidence. >>> new this morning there is more fallout from the royal phone hoax. about a dozen workers at the australian radio station behind the prank call had been moved to safe houses. ten radio executives now have around the clock bodyguards because of death threats. meanwhile british investigators are disclosing more information about three suicide notes left by the nurse. two were found in the room while the other was among her personal possessions. one note dealt with the phone call. another focused on her funeral. the third criticized ho

for this growhouse. janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> and to the latest on san francisco muni. it's back up and running after a transformer problem shut down everything for hours. ktvu aalex savidge live at the -- ktvu's alex savidge is live at the van ness station. what do you know? >> reporter: well, right here on market street, i did an interview with the mta spokesperson, he came out here and updated the situation. he says computers who use subway systems can expect a smooth right. all of the issues has been resolved. he tells me all of their trains are running on their regular schedules. let me show you the scene inside the van ness station. all of the trains again moving this morning. there was a shutdown, though, last night. it was about 6:00 when the entire subway system stopped because of a blown transformer at the van ness station. crews had to work throughout the night to fix the problem. and then finally at 1:30 this morning, they had everybody up and running again. with all of the subways out of service. you can imagine it was a major hassle for tens of thousands of commuters.
:20. a preliminary hearing set said in the -- debt today in the case of a san francisco -- set today in the case of a san francisco couple who kissed a pimp. prosecutors say they murdered this man in june after finding out their daughter may have been working a as prostitute for him. he was shot -- as a prostitute for him. he was shot in his car. two other men are also charged in this case. >>> and a preliminary hearing will be held today for a san francisco man accused of performing cosmetic surgery without a license. prosecutors say nine people reported getting botched procedures from carlos guzman at the derma clinic in san francisco's mission district. those procedures include liposuction and face lifts. he's also been charged with sexual assaults. >>> lawmakers are considering a vehicle license fee increase. if approved, the fee would go up to 2% of the vehicle's value. that would raise about $70 million for the city. the board of supervisors will reside -- will decide whether to put the proposal on the november 2014 ballot. it would need a simple majority to pass. >>> zip car is expanding
